Keeping the American dream alive is an essential mission that all Americans should get behind. America, a land of immigrants, is made a superpower through the rigorous efforts of all the hardworking individuals who burned the midnight oil to make America progressive. Be it the illegal migration of African Americans, who played a significant role in the rising economy of the United States in the past, or the people who just came here to seek better opportunities, America is a superpower today due to the untiring efforts of these immigrants. If we, as a country, believe in American values, we must expand #DACA to allow for immigrants brought here as children to remain in our country without fear of deportation. 

Not only is making DACA illegal putting in jeopardy the hundreds of thousands of immigrants who are currently working to better themselves, it creates a situation of family separation. Under no circumstance is pulling families apart the right step, even if done in an effort to enforce legal immigration. Nearly 700,000 DREAMers are seeking their part in the American dream right now. However, it should be noted that they are not just 700,000 people. In fact, they are 700,000 families, as many of them are the only breadwinners for their families. 

DREAMers are not only beneficial for the economy but they add to the diversity of America. These immigrants are so much integrated into the social fabric of the United States that without them, the direction of the country can get reversed completely. Human dignity and respect come before anything and that should not stop short of our treatment of DACA recipients.  

Because of the positive impact that DREAMers have on the economy and the importance of maintaining the U.S. as a country founded on immigrants, we must legalize and expand DACA to allow for more people to apply and protect those who have been enrolled in the program from undeserved deportation.
