"Federal involvement ensures #education fairness" Aug 10, 2024

Across the nation, spending on #education varies from state to state. Individual states/cities are in charge of their own education spending, which creates disparities across the country on how much money is invested in education.

As a country, we must take a stand for the importance of the education of the younger generation. With federal funding of education only accounting for 8% of the budget, it is no wonder that states struggle to find funds for education programs. State governments must use tax revenue to make up the remainder of the budget for education, which typically results in either budget cuts or increased taxes.

In order to increase teacher salaries and classroom budgets, especially in low-income and impoverished districts, the federal government must take an increased share of responsibility for the funding and planning of education across the nation.

Many plans for government support of education provide a much-needed increase in spending at the schools in our country that need it most. This plan works to address the issues that cause inequality for low-income students and students of color by encouraging the hiring of teachers of color and increasing teacher salaries. Additionally, these plans call for the support of community schools that can provide low-income families with support and services beyond the classroom.

The call for tax decreases has the biggest impact on schools where their budget comes solely from taxpayer money. In order for schools to be able to be funded properly, the federal government must step in and create policies that provide for standards of education that states must achieve. This will ensure that even when other areas must take a back seat, states will still have to prioritize education.

As a country we must take a stand for educational policies that encourage equality and ensure that impoverished areas are not receiving subpar education. Taking a stand for federal responsibility in K-12 education is taking a stand for underserved students, and it is a necessary step to protect the entire education system across America.
