Should the Seattle Department of Transportation fund to replace a new Magnolia Bridge for $350-$400 million? #magnolia

Seattle's #MagnoliaBridge is nearing its end, and Citizens are worried about a possible traffic disaster. After its weakening by the earthquake in 2001, it was decided that a full rebuild of the bridge was essential. Unfortunately, the matter was put on the back burner as there was never enough money for the project.

The cost of a rebuild for the #Magnolia bridge is increasing every year, and so is even trying to repair it. The 2015 environmental report by federal agencies proposed the building of a new bridge costing around $350-$400 million. Still, the funding for the project wasn't identified from local, state, or federal funding resources.

Due to a lack of funding for rebuilding the bridge, the city is focusing on alternatives providing substitute routes for traveling, one of them being building a short bridge.

The Seattle Department of Transportation studied possible alternatives and suggested three. Among them, the Construction of the Armony Way bridge was ranked highest for bike and pedestrian connectivity, and the total for the project is estimated to be around $266 million. The second option includes retrofitting the eastern part of the bridge and widening W Dravus St. The last option includes reconstruction of the lower segment of Magnolia Bridge along with adding lanes to W Dravus St. Many wild assumptions were made during this study and are questionable and arguable.

The question for debate is, should the Seattle department of transportation fund a new magnolia bridge for $350-$400 million?
