Should the U.S. government intervene and set price limits on life-saving #drugs?

The injectable medication Humira costs roughly $822 in Switzerland, while it costs $2,669 in the US if prescribed by a doctor. What explains this gap? While other countries set up regulating bodies to negotiate with drug companies, the US leaves it entirely to the #pharma companies to decide.

One in every four Americans has admitted to facing financial difficulties while paying for prescription drugs. America is the world's only advanced society where the government stays out of price regulation of medical drugs.

Some people believe that the government needs to get involved in regulating, or capping the price of needed medications, in order to provide more affordable healthcare and ensure everyone gets the care that the need.

There are others who believe that federal intervention in pharma reform would discourage wealthy people and organizations from funding research and development. The trade group PhRMA and other lobbyist groups state pricing limits will stifle needed innovations from biotech and pharma companies.

The question for debate, should the U.S. government intervene and set a price limit on life-saving drugs?
