"Pipelines can modernize Virginia" Aug 06, 2024

There are many widely publicized reasons against pipelines. However, many ignore the benefits. Pipelines are not only the most efficient means of transporting oil and natural gas, but they are also the safest. The Mountain Valley Pipeline can significantly help the economies of Virginia and West Virginia.

The beauty of Appalachia cannot be denied, and poorly built pipelines can threaten natural environments. Many agencies monitor the safety of the construction process and the impacts overall. These can be mitigated by the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service reports and ongoing monitoring and habitat restoration programs.

The economic growth that is created from pipelines is invaluable. Many jobs are created for the construction, which often lasts years, then will need ongoing employees to maintain the system. It is estimated that 8900 jobs will be added during the peak employment time.

Tax revenues between the two states are projected to be upwards of $130 million a year. Income that can be spent on education, fire and health departments, and more in the states that benefit residents.

The pipeline is cost-efficient and reliable. Natural gas will be available directly and not be slowed by trains and trucks. Pipelines are more environmentally friendly in this way as well, creating up to 77% less greenhouse gases than rail when moving over long distances. It will continue to run for decades with minimal upkeep.

There are many benefits, including job growth and positive economic impacts. Virginia could be at the forefront of sustainable energy growth and should continue to invest in and support the Mountain Valley Pipeline construction.
