Some employees at tech giants are pushing for union representation to enhance wages and safety, and to influence the type of services and products offered by their employers. There is a growing debate over labor rights, ethics, and equity at giant tech companies, one that goes beyond perks and wages. 

Some workers do not approve of the roles played by their companies in society, like selling facial recognition tools to law enforcement groups or software to militaries around the world. Proponents of tech workers' unionization also argue that the move will enhance safety and wages. They believe that unions are better placed to negotiate for higher compensation, better working conditions, as well as better benefits for their members.

On the contrary, some argue that union representation for tech workers will hinder innovation. The collective bargaining process can slow down decision-making and make it more difficult for companies to quickly embrace the changing market changes. There are also concerns that unions might negatively affect individual pay. Union wage scales can cut incentives for top-performing employees and limit the ability of a company to reward individual performance. There are also fears that a company’s ability to adapt to changes in the market might be hindered by organized labor. The collective bargaining process may consume a lot of time, and it can complicate the ability of companies to respond to new opportunities or challenges.
