Rising congestion is an issue in many major cities in the U.S.
Some believe the solution to alleviate traffic congestion is to expand road infrastructure, where expanding the road capacity will help alleviate the high traffic congestion. They believe this will ensure that, even during peak hours, motorists will be able to move about with little hindrance, and it is the right solution to the rising problem.
Others believe that there are other better solutions to rising traffic, such as increasing public transportation. They believe by making public transportation far more attractive to people, it would reduce the amount of cars on the road, thereby lessening congestion on the roads. This solution is also better for the environment, will reduce traffic related deaths, and is a more cost effective solution than the never ending cycle of roadway expansion.
