"Romero is the Best Choice for Mayor of Tucson " Aug 03, 2023

Tucson deserves a mayor with a vision for a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable city that offers economic opportunities for all Tucsonans and their households. That mayor is Regina Romero, who has proven herself to be a results-oriented and pragmatic leader who gets things done for our community. She is the best choice for mayor of Tucson in the upcoming election on November 7, 2023.

Romero has a proven track record of delivering results for Tucson since becoming the first woman and first Latina Mayor of Tucson in 2019. She has advocated for programs and policies that enhance the quality of life for Tucsonans, such as road maintenance, affordable housing, quality jobs, community safety and health improvements, and the preservation of our precious water and Sonoran ecosystem. She has also been a strong advocate for Tucson at the state and federal levels, securing funding and resources to meet the city's needs.

Romero also demonstrated outstanding leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, which began during her tenure as a newcomer mayor. She took immediate and decisive action to protect public health and safety while providing relief and assistance to small businesses, workers, and families. She coordinated response and recovery efforts in collaboration with local officials, health experts, and community organizations. She also ensured that Tucson received its fair share of federal stimulus funds and wisely allocated them to address the most pressing issues.

Based on her campaign platform, Romero has a clear vision for Tucson's future. She aims to position Tucson as a leader in clean energy and climate action by increasing renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating green jobs. She seeks to stimulate economic development and innovation by attracting new businesses, supporting local entrepreneurs, and investing in transportation and infrastructure. Romero is committed to advancing social justice and equity by promoting racial fairness, advocating for immigrants' rights, and improving access to education and healthcare. She also intends to enhance public safety and confidence by reforming the police force, improving community policing, and addressing the root causes of crime. She aims to celebrate Tucson's culture and diversity by promoting the arts, preserving historic landmarks, and honoring the region's Indigenous peoples.

In contrast, Romero's opponent, Janet Wittenbraker, lacks the experience, vision, and values that Tucson needs in a mayor. Wittenbraker is a political newcomer and has never held public office before. Her campaign platform is vague and generic, failing to address Tucson's unique concerns and challenges. She appears to lack an understanding of, or commitment to, Tucson's distinct identity and history. Additionally, she has aligned herself with the Republican Party, which has not always been supportive of Tucson's interests at the state level.

In this election, Tucsonans have a clear choice between Regina Romero and Janet Wittenbraker. Romero is the mayor who has already delivered results for Tucson and has a clear vision for its future. Wittenbraker is an inexperienced outsider who seems unaware of, or disinterested in, Tucson's problems. The choice is clear: Regina Romero is the best candidate for Tucson mayor.
