With Election Day just around the corner, there’s no better time to truly ponder what kind of individual the State of Nevada needs at the helm of affairs for the next four years. While some people might choose to go the partisan way and keep things simple, that approach might not be enough to get stuff done this time around.
The message of the man, the vision he carries, and the level of determination and effort he’s willing to put behind achieving his agenda are what’s more important right now.
Obviously, the incumbent governor, Democrat Steve Sisolak and his main challenger in the November 8, 2022 election, Republican Joe Lombardo have had a lot to say on why they’re both right for the job. But when push comes to shove, it immediately becomes apparent who has the better message: Joe Lombardo.
Lombardo is an individual whose entire life up to this point can be accurately summarized with a single statement: selfless service to country. Before assuming office as the 17th Sheriff of Clark County, the head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) in 2015, he served in the U.S. Army, National Guard, and Army Reserve. He rose through the ranks, becoming a sergeant in 1996 and a lieutenant in 2001 before eventually leaving the force.
As someone who’s spent so long protecting and promoting America freedom, Lombardo is no stranger to taking decisive actions that get results. This is a trait that Nevada could greatly benefit from right now. All of this gives his words a reassuring sound people are likely to miss elsewhere.
Let’s consider his stance on gun control and protecting the 2nd amendment. Considering how much of a controversial issue gun control has been in recent times, it’s easy to be skeptical when a governorship candidate promises heaven and earth here. That said, these promises are easier to take from a man like Lombardo who’s spent the last 3 decades wearing a gun. He’s proven that he’ll protect the right of every Nevadan to own a firearm. In light of POTUS Biden’s restrictive gun control plans, only a governor like Lombardo can be trusted to protect the interests of Nevadans here.
Yet another issue Lombardo has been vocal about is education. He has demonstrably proven that he understands just how important access to quality education is to securing a child’s future. His stance is this: access to quality job and career training for jobs available now and those likely to be created in the future can effectively futureproof children in the state. This is one reason why it’s almost impossible to fault his promise to expand charter schools, provide opportunity scholarships, and make school choices more available.
As a law enforcement officer himself, some would argue that Lombardo’s position on defunding the police is myopic and self-serving. However, with a little patience, it’s easy to see that his sentiments on this issue are far more practical. After all, is it really difficult to see criminals becoming more emboldened and active in the face of a crippled police force? Is it so far-fetched that defunding the police force puts law enforcement agencies at a greater disadvantage when it comes to protecting the everyday citizen?
Lombardo’s opinion that defunding the police isn’t the next step for Nevada is the simple truth. The fact that this stance is unpopular at the moment does nothing to change that reality. If nothing else, it further cements the image of this individual as a man who’s always ready to tell the truth, even if it isn’t what everyone wants to hear.
Nevada is at a very delicate stage in its journey right now, and who takes the wheels next determines the trajectory on which the state will travel, for better or worse. Lombardo alone has the vision and resolve needed to pull Nevada back from the precipice and make the state great again.
