On November 8, Nevada will elect its next governor. The race is quickly boiling down to a face-off between the Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak and Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo.
Gov. Steve, like other prominent Democrats in Nevada, is preparing for a whirlwind electoral storm caused by President Joe Biden's poor support rating, excessive petrol costs, and raging inflation. However, It testifies to his political tenacity that he has helped so many people for so long.
Inspired by his dedication for education, he brought in higher government funding and stood out for Nevadans who were being unfairly charged for school fees. To this day, education remains his top priority.
Steve had a reputation for forging alliances and resolving conflicts. He effectively handled the county's largest budget and guided it successfully through the Global Depression.
When Nevada was the most severely affected state as a result of COVID-19, Steve offered his hands to help various microenterprises, employees, and students. He signed legislation preserving the jobs of hospital workers, attracted about 100 new businesses delivering high-paying opportunities, and obtained more than $100 million in funding that aided nearly 10,000 small businesses.
During his term, Steve strives for Nevada to be stable and progressive by funding education, expanding the economy to generate employment, and ensuring that all Nevadans have access to high-quality, relatively affordable healthcare.
While Sisolak and Republican Lombardo are now almost tied for first place, Lombardo tries to criticize Sisolak on the subject of education, attacking him over pandemic-era school closures and school safety while advocating for "parents' rights."
The notable accentuation on education by Lombardo, who used to focus largely on crime and economy, was intended to detract voters from his controversial series of slip-ups and conflicting utterances regarding his stance on the abortion policy, which was another critical problem across the U.S.
In addition, people weren't responding favorably to Lombardo's earlier criticism of Sisolak on the state's rising crime rate because Lombardo is one of the state's top law enforcement officials.
Nevada is at a political crossroads as it chooses its next leader. It is clear that the incumbent Governor Sisolak should remain in office for another term to continue to allow Navada to prosper.
