In a few short weeks, it’ll once again be time for Texan voters to exercise their civic rights to determine who will lead the great state for the next four years. But even though Texas has been a predominantly red state for the past 28 years, voters will likely be faced with a tough decision come November 8th, 2022.

The battle for who’ll be the next governor of the state will be waged between Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat Beto O’Rourke.

Born Georgy Wayne Abbott, this Republican candidate put in 12 years of service as attorney general of the state, becoming the longest serving Texas Attorney General in history. He declared his intention to vie for governor of the state in July 2013. He first won the gubernatorial election one year later, in 2014. He was reelected in 2018, making this his third re-election campaign. Should he emerge successful, he’d only be the fifth governor of the state to stay in office for three terms. Recently, the incumbent governor has taken a firm stance on immigration control and has helped implement more restrictive abortion laws.

A member of the Democratic Party, Robert Francis O’Rourke is a one-time El Paso Congressman. After serving as a US representative from 2013 to 2019, he threw his hat in the ring for a presidential nomination before withdrawing his bid later. O’Rourke declared his intention to run in the 2022 gubernatorial elections in November 2021. So far, he’s built his campaign around optimizing the electrical grid of the state, legalizing marijuana, and various other key issues.

With elections less than 60 days away, the question is, who would make a better governor for Texas, Incumbent Republican Greg Abbott or Democrat Beto O’Rourke?
