Californians will have an opportunity to elect their representative to the U.S. Senate in the upcoming U.S. general election slated for November 8, 2022. The two main contestants in the race are the Democratic Party nominee Alex Padilla and the Republican Party nominee Mark Meuser.

Senator Alex Padilla is asking for another term to represent the people of California in the U.S. Senate, so he can continue the work that he already started. Some of his achievements as a senator include restoring California's climate leadership through reinstatement of strict clean air standards, which Trump had suspended, and securing infrastructure financing for clean drinking water and clean air. Following the threat posed by rising temperatures in California, Padilla has secured billions to prepare Californians for extreme weather occurrences via investments that will stop wildfires, black-outs, and strengthen the electric grid. He has also fought for billions to cushion Californian families and businesses against the COVID-19 shock. Before becoming a senator, Alex served in other public offices such as California Secretary of State, Los Angeles City Council President, California State Senate, and California's Chief Elections Officer.

Republican Mark Meuser is counting on his achievements as a public defender to earn a chance to serve Californians in the U.S. Senate. Among his achievements, he fought for First Amendment religious rights when the Governor closed places of worship, fighting for kids’ education when schools were closed, and fighting for medical freedom at the time when the President attempted to force businesses to vaccinate their staff. Mark is promising that, when given an opportunity to represent his people to the U.S. Senate, he will take his fight for constitutional rights from the courtroom to the Capitol. He is also pledging to fight for parents to have additional local control over their kid's education. The Republican nominee is also pledging to fight for the rights of people to make a living by ensuring that the budget is balanced in order to stop runaway inflation.
