Voters in Florida will decide their representative to the U.S. Senate during the U.S. Senate general election scheduled for November 8, 2022. The two top contestants in the race are Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Val Demings.
Incumbent Senator Marco Rubio was born in 1971 in Miami, Florida. Since his election to the Senate, Marco has been at the forefront of pushing for commonsense, conservative ideologies that address American issues. He established the paycheck protection program, which salvaged about 500,000 small businesses and supported over six million jobs in Florida during the pandemic. Marco also challenged his party to double the amount of child tax credit for working families and put back more cash in the Floridians' pockets. He revitalized the efforts to restore the Everglades, pushed for accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and he is leading a war targeting communist China. Marco says that his decision to represent Floridians is motivated by the need to restore the American Dream, restore American jobs, and making the communities better. Marco was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Val Demings was born in 1957 in Jacksonville, Florida. She has served in various public offices from the Orlando Police Department to being elected to the House of Representatives. She has also served on the House Judiciary, Intelligence, and Homeland Security Committees. She made history in 2010 by becoming one of the first women and Black Americans to put forward a presidential impeachment on the floor of the U.S. Senate. As a member of Congress, Demings aims to make sure whoever is ready to work hard can secure a better-paying job – one that can create a better life for the younger generation. On healthcare issues, Chief Demings is pledging to push for a decrease in the cost of prescription drugs since she believes that each American deserves affordable, high-quality healthcare. Demings has been at the forefront of promoting vaccines as the best way to tackle the global pandemic. Demings is also promising that if elected to the U.S. Senate, she will champion affordable housing in Florida, and showing that she has started this journey by pushing for a cut in middle-class taxes, and lobbying for additional financing for the federal budget's affordable housing.
