The general elections to be held on November 8, 2022, means that Illinoisans will be electing one candidate to represent their interests in the U.S. Senate. The Class III Senate seat is currently held by Democrat Tammy Duckworth, who is up for reelection to secure a second term in office. And, while there are four (4) other candidates on the ballot, the main challenger is the Republican Party’s Kathy Salvi.
Senator Tammy Duckworth is currently serving on the Senate’s Armed Services Committee. Duckworth also serves on the Environment and Public Works committee, and she’s the chair of the Senate subcommittee on Airland and Fisheries, Water and Wildlife. If reelected to the office, Duckworth promises to continue the fight against crippling bureaucracy and other systematic problems plaguing U.S. veterans and their families. She also has plans for job development programs, increased funding for Social Security and Medicare as well as environmental justice.
Kathy Salvi, the major challenger, had to face off against six other candidates during the Republican Party’s primary election. She emerged as the party’s candidate for U.S. Senate with 30% of the votes on June 28, 2022. Raised in Waukegan, Salvi has been a licensed attorney for more than 3 decades. She’s running for office because she believes that IL and U.S. families are struggling more than they should, and she wants to bring real and sustainable economic relief to residents and businesses in the country. She also feels that national security is a major priority and wants to push for securing the border. She’s also committed to supprting an energy independent policy in the Senate.
Considering this, many Illinoisan voters are faced with the big question, who would make a better representative to the Senate from Illinois, Democrat Tammy Duckworth or Republican Kathy Salvi?
