Who would make a better representative to the #Senate from Indiana, Democrat Thomas McDermott or Republican Todd Young?

The state of Indiana has two leading candidates contesting for the seat of Senator. The incumbent, Republican Todd Young is running against Thomas McDermott Jr. from the Democratic Party.

Young is a former representative from Indiana's 9th Congressional District and an attorney by profession. During his service in the Senate and U.S house, he has been a part of many committees, including foreign relations, finance, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Agriculture, education, and healthcare were among the many fundamental issues highlighted by him during his campaign in 2016.

On the other hand, McDermott got elected as mayor of Hammond, Indiana in 2004. He has since been continually reelected as mayor, bringing his years of service to a total of 16 years. During his period as mayor, he established the College Bound Scholarship program, a city-wide commitment to youth sports, and Wolf Lake Pavilion. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1988 to 1994 and is a law school graduate. He has extended his support to medicare for all and emphasized the importance of public education.
