Tom McDermott is the Best Choice for Indiana

" Sep 30, 2022

Like several other states in the 2022 mid-term election year, Indiana voters will be called upon to fill one of the 35 soon-to-be-vacant seats in the United States Senate. And while it might look like a thick race with 10 different candidates vying for the office, true Hoosiers only have one viable option on the ballot on November 8, 2022 - Thomas Matthew McDermott Jr.

Tom McDermott, as he is fondly called, has spent much of his life in service of people and country. It’s why, unlike any other individual, he’ll be able to put the best interests of the people of Indiana ahead of corporate greed.

Although this candidate has a lot on his agenda to execute, one matter that he has been particularly emphatic about is the fact that reproductive rights in the country have taken too much damage. As he has said, “I have friends and neighbors who disagree on this issue, but to me it’s just simple: God gives no one a right to control another person’s body. I’m tired of men telling women what they can do with their own body. Women should have a right to choose, especially when their own lives are on the line. By overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court has put thousands of women’s lives at risk of dying or other harm. That’s why I will vote to codify Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.” For this, he also stands ready to protect the funding and resources that programs like Planned Parenthood need to ensure the optimal health of women.

McDermott has also set his sights on improving the situation of health care in the state. While he doesn’t contest the fact that health care has improved significantly in the country, especially in recent years, McDermott is also not hesitant to point out that the current situation is still far from ideal, regardless. He’s of the opinion that, “We need to get soaring costs under control for Hoosier families, and in the U.S. Senate, I’ll work to do just that. It is not right that in the greatest country in the world one unexpected trip to the emergency room or medical diagnosis can leave a family financially devastated for the rest of their lives.” He can go this far because he fully realizes the extent to which working American families need this level of support.

In addition to that, he also sees the need for growth in the business sector of the state. As the mayor of Hammond, he was able to bring in more than $1 billion to the community over the course of his 18 years in office. Given the chance to serve Indiana in the U.S. Senate, there’s no doubt that he’ll be able to successfully make the state into a place where small businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive freely.

And, being a veteran himself, he sees significant room for improvement where veteran services are concerned. Up until now, this has only been a political tool used to get the support of voters. However, with McDermott as senator, he’ll put in the work to ensure that our heroes get the care and services they need when they return from duty.

The tide is turning in Indiana, and McDermott is the final seal needed to put everything in place. His decades of spotless service both as a soldier and as mayor shows clearly what kind of individual he is. He won’t betray the interests and trust of the people, nor will he relent in making Indiana greater and better.

McDermott has all it takes to truly revitalize the state, so a vote for him is a vote for true democracy in Indiana!
