"Gary Chambers – The Hope of a Greater Louisiana" Oct 13, 2022

Due to the unique way that elections are run in Louisiana, primary elections for those who’ll serve as the state’s representative in the U.S. Senate will be held on November 8, 2022. At the moment, that means 13 candidates will be on the ballot. If no single candidate can successfully secure 50% of the population’s vote, the two candidates with the most votes are expected to advance to the general election which will be held on December 10, 2022. In either case, one fact is irrefutable at this juncture, and that’s that Gary Chambers of the Democratic Party is the only individual on that ballot that represents the change that LA wants to see.

This progressive individual who was born and raised in northern Baton Rouge has a clear idea of what the state of Louisiana could be. His biggest concern has been about the condition of the health care system in the state. At the moment, Louisiana is ranked 46th on the list of states that have the health care infrastructure to meet the medical needs of their citizens. He believes that this has directly contributed to the alarming rate of obesity and diabetes the state has been recording in recent years.

As a solution-oriented individual, he has a permanent fix for all these issues. Some of the remedies he plans to work on include providing Medicare for all, developing community-based health centers, and boosting maternal and infant health while working to reduce the cost of prescription drugs. This thought process indicates that this individual fully comprehends the role that access to good health care plays in the life of the average American.

Another of Chamber’s critical priorities is providing access to a quality education because he, “… believes that free and appropriate public education and job skills training are the passport to the future.” To that end, as a U.S. senator, he promises to devote himself to providing free higher education and job skills training. He also intends to focus on forgiving student loan debt, and fully funding a structured and appropriate public school system. He also wants to abolish high stakes testing, recruit and retain more black male teachers, and source for increased funding for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (S.T.E.A.M). Chambers will also be paying special attention to the River Parishes as he plans to set up various satellite college campuses in that jurisdiction as well.

Chambers has also fully acknowledged that the economy of Louisiana needs tending to. The biggest proof of this is that the state’s economic infrastructure is ranked 47th in the entire country. He fears that if this matter isn’t addressed, things will only spiral from bad to worse for the hardworking middle-class families in Louisiana. To set this issue right in a country that’s not yet completely free of the pandemic, he has committed himself to working to increase the minimum wage and protect the rights of workers. He also fully supports the Real Corporate Profits Tax Act of 2021 and will ensure that rich companies don’t get away with tax evasion or exploiting loopholes.

Chambers is also a passionate advocate of common sense gun reform and criminal justice reform. In addition, he believes that within the borders of the country, LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights should be protected to the fullest extent of the law.

All of these matters are critical issues that the good people of Louisiana have looked away from for too long. The state has suffered enough for this negligence. By casting a vote for Chambers, these challenges can be set right and the region as a whole can truly achieve growth.

With Gary Chambers as the state’s representative in the senate, the difference that Louisiana didn’t know it needed can finally come to realization.
