"Chris Van Hollen and the Path to a Better Maryland" Sep 30, 2022

Just like it was six years before, Marylanders will be trooping to the ballots on November 8, 2022, to decide who’ll serve as the representative of the state to the U.S. Senate for the next term. And, just like before, the only viable candidate appearing on the ballot this midterm election year is none other than Chris Van Hollen.

Even though there can be no contesting the fact that there was initially speculation over whether or not Van Hollen would be able to carry on former Senator Barbara Mikulski’s good work in Maryland, more than five years down the road, the people of the state can congratulate themselves on a decision well made.

Before the 13-year Democratic Congressman was elected as a senator of the state, a lot of promises were made, much of which he’s valiantly lived up to. Two industries in the state where the good senator has invested much of his effort are social assistance and healthcare. And while the state of these projects might leave something to be desired, the potential for growth that they now carry cannot be denied. As Van Hollen once mentioned, “…(Maryland is) a great state, but we haven’t met our full potential.” The senator has been working tirelessly in the chamber to help his dear state truly tap into the vast reserves of potential that it holds.

One of the places where his impact has been keenly felt is in the area of delivering relief for the people of Maryland. As a serving member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Van Hollen has been instrumental in helping the state secure the significant financial resources it has used to improve its transportation network and fund the great Chesapeake Bay project. He has also helped different categories of people, from seniors to students, teachers, and schools, with funding to get by in these rapidly changing times. Most noteworthy in this regard is his effort and support of the Build Back Better Act, an initiative that’s poised to drastically improve the physical and human infrastructure of the state in the coming days.

Van Hollen has also been very vehement about securing the future of the state. He believes that one thing that’s critical to this is providing the right educational opportunities complemented by the appropriate workforce training. Along these lines, the senator has made truly commendable moves that have opened easier channels to quality education for children in the state. Similarly, he has worked towards increasing the level of investment in public schools while simultaneously expanding apprenticeship avenues in the state as well.

In the same vein, Van Hollen is one of the few in the U.S. Senate currently who fully understands the danger that unfettered access to guns poses. Because of this, the senator has strongly opposed the NRA at every turn and remains a staunch supporter of sensible gun laws. He sees gun violence as the national threat that it is and is committed to putting an end to it. While acting against the gun lobby, he has also taken decisive steps to strengthen public safety and radically reduce the incidence of violent crimes.

In a country that has come under threat by outdated and deliberately misinterpreted concepts, Van Hollen is the voice of sense and reason that Maryland needs and deserves. So far, he has fulfilled his duties and through his words and actions continues to put the people first. His level of dedication and service is a rare commodity in this day and age

When re-elected into office, he’ll no doubt continue to espouse the values that this great state has come to be known and loved for.
