Voters in Ohio will vote for their representative to the U.S. Senate during the U.S. general election slated for November 8, 2022. The two candidates running in the election are Democrat Tim Ryan and Republican J.D. Vance.
Tm Ryan was born in 1973 in Niles, Ohio. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 2002. Ryan is pledging a wide range of promises tied to economic issues, such as revitalizing the manufacturing sector in the state, a federal minimum wage of $15, the PRO ACT, expanding affordable healthcare, and renegotiating current foreign trade deals. On his official campaign website, Tim states that there is a need to have a robust infrastructure bill that will create thousands of jobs for Ohioans working to rebuild the roads and bridges, and link Ohioans in the cities and rural areas to low-cost, high-speed internet, which would enable them to compete with the rest of the world. Tim also promises to continue upholding Ohio workers' dignity by fighting for investment in skills training and apprenticeship, emerging sectors, and R&D, so Ohio can maintain its status as a manufacturing powerhouse.
J.D. Vance was born in 1984 in Middletown, Ohio. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps starting 2003 to 2007 before he moved to a venture capital firm in San Francisco. Vance is basing his campaigns on reintroducing manufacturing to Ohio, breaking up huge technology firms, completing the wall along the southern border, and fixing the immigration system in the country. On his official campaign website, Vance blames Biden's administration for spending the country's billions on unnecessary expenditures, and promises to ensure inflation is brought under control. Vance has also based his campaign on what he calls "common-sense" consumer policies where the American consumer is put first, to make the country energy independent. Vance is advocating for the breaking up of big tech companies to cut their influence in America's politics and economy, as well as an end to personal information theft.
The question for debate is, who would best represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate, between Democrat Tim Ryan and Republican J.D. Vance?
