On November 8, 2022, voters in Ohio will once again be called upon to elect who’ll represent the state at the floor of the U.S. Senate. As has become the case in recent years, many individuals have put themselves on the ballot, considering themselves fit for this role. However, if the State of Ohio is to get on the path to recovery in these trying times, the people can count on only one individual to serve them as senator in the coming days: Tim Ryan.
Tim Ryan deserves a lot of credit for staying strong and consistent, even after spending so much time in elected office. More specifically, only a few politicians can boast the outstanding and spotless track record that this individual has so far.
First elected into the state’s House of Representatives in 2002, he was the youngest Democrat to take the office at the age of 29. He did a lot of good while he was there too, initiating policies like the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act which would’ve gone a long way in tackling the antics of countries that engaged in currency manipulation had it made it to the Senate. He also provided a lot of support for the Iran nuclear deal which helped prevent Iran from acquiring weapons of mass destruction. Also commendable was the fact that he defended Adi Othman, an undocumented immigrant who had been in the U.S. for nearly 4 decades from deportation. While ex-President Donald Trump ultimately got Othman deported, Ryan wasn’t hesitant to point out that the treatment of undocumented immigrants in the country needed improvement.
Now, with incumbent Senator Rob Portman not seeking re-election, Ryan believes that there’s no better time than the present for Ohioans to take control of the state and initiate change. While Ryan would be the first to point out that there are a lot of issues that need fixing in the state, he acknowledges that he aims to prioritize solving a few of these problems over others.
As such, one of the major challenges he intends to take head-on is the suffering of the working class in the country. Ryan points out that the consistent disinvestment, outsourcing, and unfair trade policies that the U.S. has allowed to slide by is a major contributor to the predicament that Ohio and the country at large find themselves in currently. He believes that the less-than-ideal impacts of NAFTA on Northeast Ohio should be the nation’s clarion call to do more. So, before he even put in his bid to become senator, he has been vehemently opposing the harmful trade policies that have sown these seeds in the state. However, Ryan believes that, as senator, he’ll be even better positioned to implement a full economic recovery that will help the working class in the state come alive again. He has a plan to strategically invest in Ohio’s businesses and workers to rejuvenate the people and community.
Ryan also truly believes that the people of Ohio deserve a more affordable health care system. He’s tired of the stories of families going broke simply because they just want to be healthy. As a U.S. Senator, Ryan intends to not only make medical treatments more affordable but also readily accessible by investing more intensively in rural health care. He has also had enough of the damage that opioids have caused to families and communities in the area and is ready to bring in the funds needed to prevent and properly treat this problem.
Other matters that take a central focus on the mind of this Senate aspirant include strengthening national security, helping seniors financially, funding students, and eliminating racial disparities. No other person is talking about these issues much less doing anything about them. This is all the more reason why Ohio needs Ryan in office.
