In addition to voting for the next governor of the state, Oklahoma will also have to choose its next U.S. Senator in the general elections to be held on November 8, 2022. Of the four candidates vying for this office, the race will most likely be decided between Incumbent Republican Senator James Lankford and Democrat Madison Horn.
Madison Horn is a cyber-security analyst who decided to leave her career and run for office following the incident on January 6, 2021. On April 19, 2021, she filed to run for the U.S. Senate as a democrat, finally winning the primaries on August 23, 2022. According to Madison, “My purpose in this campaign and, honestly, in life, is to help others and to advocate for them... I want Oklahomans to know that there are people in positions of power that care about them.” If elected to office, she promises to attack the biggest issues facing Oklahoma at the moment, starting with increasing funding efforts to modernize the state’s infrastructure and bring it up to standard. She also intends to fund and promote education in the state as well as vote to strengthen America’s national security.
Lankford became a U.S. senator in 2014 when he won a special election by nearly 68% of the votes. After completing former U.S. Senator Tom Coburn’s term in 2016, he ran for reelection and emerged with nearly the same number of votes again. His current term will end in 2023. As one of several politicians who took the taxpayer protection pledge, he supports reduced government spending and lower taxes. He has also endorsed the National Rifle Association and opposes firearm microstamping. He also promises to oppose legislation like red flag laws that infringe on constitutional rights, vote to protect the second amendment, and work to protect life.
