The state government of Illinois, led by Governor J.B. Pritzker, has made important strides to curb the state's greenhouse gas emission by an estimated 25 to 28 percent by the year 2025. The governor has been a proponent for a preparedness plan to get Illinois on track in accordance with the Paris agreement.

All United States citizens are becoming increasingly aware of climate change, as reported by a survey. The U.S residents that took the survey indicated that their views were shaped by various climatic impacts that have cost the country millions of dollars and cost lives. Even though some states in America haven't started directly feeling the impact of climate change, #Illinois is.

A federal report made available in November 2019 indicated that unpredictable weather and extreme heat, among other effects, could lead to high losses in the country's agricultural production, with its biggest impacts potentially hitting the midwest.

Shifting to the use of renewable energy sources seems to be the best way to counter climate change and its negative consequences. This point has forced various Illinois state coal mines shut down at a rapid rate, however that doesn’t necessarily reduce carbon emission. Emissions actually rapidly increased due to the springing up of industries that have not yet converted to renewable energy sources.

Local governments, counties, and agencies in the country, especially in Illinois, need to do more to make people aware that climate change is already upon us. Everyone needs to work together to mitigate further climate change. Promoting higher education on the subject, regulations, and support will ensure that the fight against the devastating effects of climate change can succeed in Illinois in the years to come.
