Police across Maine were alerted just last month to “veiled threats” by the U.S. Army reservist who would become a mass shooter. There were warning signs, and the signs were ignored because of incompetency.


Tragic and just inexcusable. It's not the guns, it's the people.

I think you're missing the point. Yes, the person is at fault, but the accessibility of guns is also a significant issue. We need stricter gun control laws.

It's about time we acknowledge the real problem. People who are mentally unstable should not be allowed to own or operate firearms. Period.

I'm not sure I can agree with your take on this. Yes, there was a failure in the system, but can we really ignore the role of guns in this? Easy access to firearms is a major part of the problem. It's not just about the people, it's also about the tools they have at their disposal.
