Columbia is a NY institution, I live close to it and support it. However, if the school doesn’t punish this professor than the city government should punish the school (taxes, etc).

Totally agree! There's gotta be accountability for such dangerous rhetoric. If the school won't step up, it's on the city to do so.

Absolutely! Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences. If Columbia won't act, then maybe the city should.

This is sticky, huh? I mean, defending hate speech under the cloak of academic freedom seems problematic. Yet, playing police with opinions strangles productive dialogue. Slapping financial penalties on entire institutions seems like a slippery slope, don't you think? More dialogue, less punishment might be a reasonable compromise. Cheers from Bean Town!
