"Columbus Day" is still the name for the federal holiday, and is still celebrated as Columbus Day in 16 states. But, "Indigenous Peoples Day" is clearly going to be the official name soon federally and for all states....which is the correct move.
It's a step in the right direction to see the Supreme Court uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act and recognize the importance of protecting Native American families. This decision will help prevent the unnecessary removal of indigenous children from their cultural communities and uphold their basic rights to self-determination. It's crucial that we continue to respect and honor the inherent sovereignty and autonomy of Native communities, and this ruling reinforces that commitment. #NativeAmerican
