Should #gay couples have the same #adoption rights as heterosexual couples?

"Allow adoption right for homosexual couples" Aug 09, 2024

Many #homosexual couples have a desire to become parents. While in many cases, it is legal for LGBT couples to get married and adopt children, some states still allow adoption agencies to discriminate based on family makeup. Despite this fact, the number of children raised by LGBT couples is rising every year.

However, there is still work to do to explicitly protect a universal right to adoption by LGBT couples. Can you even imagine wanting to be parents and adopt children, then being unable to do so just because your local adoption agency does not believe they should based on religious beliefs? While the governments of all 50 states have overturned the majority of laws that made it illegal for gay couples to adopt, there is still plenty of road blocks in the way for couples in areas that permit private adoption agencies to turn away potential parents.

Some people believe that gay couples aren’t able to raise children properly. However, most studies have now proved that gay or lesbian couples score high in raising children. The parent-child relationship among homosexual couples and their adopted children is as strong, if not stronger, than it is between heterosexual couples and their kids.

It is just baffling to me that there are so many who still see this as a sticking point. Why are we not thinking about the kids, who just want a happy and loving home. Who better to provide that than a loving couple who want so desperately to adopt.
